LE PAROLE DEL CALENDARIO (THE CALENDAR’S WORDS)

🔸 l’anno (the year)
I GIORNI DELLA SETTIMANA (Days of the week)
Days of the week, the months and the seasons are not capitalized in Italian unless beginning a sentence and are all masculine except for domenica (Sunday). The week begins with lunedì (Monday).
The accent of this word is on the last syllable. In Italian, the end of the week is il fine della settimana but sometimes but you will also hear the English word “weekend” .
Note that the days of the week are never capitalised.

- giovedì: Giove (Jupiter)
- venerdì: Venere (Venus)
- sabato: Saturno (Saturn)
- domenica: (Sunday; The origin of the word “domenica” comes from the Latin expression “dies Dominicus” – “Lord’s day”)
