Nata nel 1974 a Solarolo, in provincia di Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna), ha cominciato a cantare per il pubblico all’ età di otto anni.

La sua carriera di cantante pop è iniziata nel 1993 al Festival della canzone di Sanremo, dove Laura ha vinto il primo premio con «Solitudine», una delle sue canzoni più famose.
